As usual, articles that will be removed or restricted after a while, will be posted here via lj-cut.

Guardian: Someone should teach me the art of lying to entertain the media circus.

IHT: Why ultrasounds to aid the abortion of a female fetus have to stop. It's a worldwide problem, not just limited to India and China.

Q:But how about the issue of population explosion?
A:If all resources were fully utilised with low wastage and research was untainted by external and internal parties seeking to influence the outcome, there wouldn't be such a plethora of problems.

Note: I am not against the use of ultrasounds to reveal any potential problems in the unborn child. However, if it's employed for unethical purposes, it has to be halted or corrected. When cultural practises collide with professions, it often results in an issue of ethics.

The first 2 quizes were "borrowed" off this person's lj while browsing through the LJ interests. The 3rd quiz was borrowed off Crystalplumage's LJ.

What right does 1 group of humans have to deny another group their right to love and happiness in life? As much as some would claim that it is for the greater good of (insert name of religion) or the human race, I'd have to disagree. That'd be just like saying a group of neo-Nazis have as much right to enforce their beliefs on the rest of the human race, just like a group of (insert name of religion) fundamentalists do.

Homosexuality, except for some selected cases where the absence of a father or presence of an abusive father results in sexual dysfunction, is something you were born with. It's not a choice and also the discovery of your own sexuality. It's not surprising that there are a lot of scientific articles claiming that homosexuality is a choice and all that crap. Whatever happened to honesty?

There's a lot of discussion about how the virtues of marriage will be threatened if gays are allowed to marry. Unfortunately, did anyone forget that up until a few hundred years ago, many marriages were formed through matchmaking? The parents saw fit to marry off their daughters to whomever they liked. Marriages were also used as a tool for strengthening the political, commercial, etc. positions of both families and even countries. Strangely, I don't see anything about how "virtuous" such a marriage could be.

Of course, there were the marriages where the couple really loved one another. However, to ignore the "negative" aspects of an issue is like believing that "there's only black and white and no gray in between".

And, if anyone thinks that I'm homosexual or something, no, I'm straight. Well, at least I think I am! And no, I don't really believe that The Finger Test applies to everyone.

This makes me so happy while this(the Washington Post article, that is) really upsets me. Hmm... I wonder how to put quote boxes in LJ. After all, it's not very ethically right to paste an article which wasn't written by me. *scratches her head*

Here"s the news article from the first link.Collapse )
And this really confused me for a while.

Originally, quite a number of kingdoms/civilisations were matriarchal. Then, they became patriarchal. This gave rise to male chauvinism which in turn caused female chauvinism.

How many times must we regress before we progress?

How many lives do we have to sacrifice before we recognise the extent of our human folly?

On a lighter note: Look at this and this. They are really funny. :) Note that you need WMP to play the second link. :) In WMP, File===>Open URL.
